The “Hoot” Teams Up with Coney Island USA
The Southern Sideshow Hootenanny brings an evening of variety entertainment to Coney Island to benefit the sideshow arts in New York and New Orleans

The New Orleans-based Southern Sideshow Hootenanny Foundation (aka, “The Hoot”) is teaming up with Brooklyn’s own Coney Island USA for Crystal Balls: An Evening Beyond the Veil. This evening promises to be a spirited, psychic-themed evening of sideshow, circus, burlesque, magic and more to raise funds (and perhaps the dead) for the Hoot. In addition to the show, ticket holders will enjoy Coney Island Brewery beer specials.

Scheduled to appear are a lineup of nationally-known variety performers, including Angela Butch (Bindlestiff Family Circus/The Muse Brooklyn), magician Tanya Solomon (Force Majeure Vaudeville), sideshow performer Kali von Wonderkammer (founder of The Southern Sideshow Hootenanny), burlesque from Maryland’s own Anna Steaysa, ghostly guest speakers, and MC, The Lady Aye (Dickinson). The evening’s festivities will also include a raffle, drinking games, audience participation, and other surprises.

This is the first of an upcoming series of programming partnerships between Coney Island USA (Sideshows at the Seashore, the Mermaid Parade) and the Hoot in our mutual mission to support, promote, and preserve the history and practice of the sideshow arts. Based out of New Orleans, The Southern Sideshow Hootenanny Foundation, a registered 501(c)3, and is the longest-running professional development weekend/festival dedicated exclusively to circus sideshow in the country. Founded in 2014, with its premiere in 2015, the Hoot works throughout the year to fulfill its mission of preserving the traditions of this uniquely American art form while fostering growth throughout the community as a whole. 2019 marks an expansion of those goals with the opening of yearly memberships, online content creation, and local showcases throughout the country.
