Comic Gold: Discover the Clown in You Jan 12

If you are a performer wishing to take your comedy up a notch, then this workshop is for you. Utilizing clown theory, we will unearth the stuff that makes you uniquely funny! Starting from a place of openness and honesty, the clown in you will freely emerge. Learn to trust your instincts and accept your truth. Create a stronger physical presence and forge a genuine connection with your audience. Small detailed work will yield huge results! A fun and challenging 3 1/2 hours taught by Carol Lee Sirugo

No prior experience necessary. Open to all types of performers: dancers, aerial artists, jugglers, puppeteers, actors, stand-ups, improvisers, writers, directors, and anyone interested in comedy.

About the instructor:
Carol Lee Sirugo is an actor, clown, teacher, coach, director and writer. She is a native New Yorker and has performed in numerous productions both off and off-off Broadway. As a clown, she has performed duo and solo work at various festivals and venues across NYC including: SOLOCOM Festival at the PIT, Comedy in Dance Festival at Triskelion Arts, Bindlestiff Open Stage Variety Show, Move It Festival at HERE Arts Center, The International Clown Festival at The Brick Theater, Laugh Out Loud Comedy Festival at Emerging Artists Theater, and The NY Downtown Clown Revue at the Kraine Theater. A veteran of the Canadian Fringe Festival Circuit, she has toured across Canada many times with her work. Directing credits include How to Suffer Better, Edmonton and Edinburgh Fringe Festivals) and an episode of the web series Killing It (Amazon). Upcoming directing projects include the web series Take Away with Max Roche and Voice of Authority (59E59, Edinburgh Fringe). Carol graduated from LaGuardia High School of the Arts, received her BA from Sarah Lawrence College, and attended the National Theater Institute Program at the Eugene O’Neill Theater Center. She has studied Clown with David Shiner, Kenny Raskin, Jango Edwards, Aitor Basauri (Spymonkey), and NY Goofs, among many others. She has studied mime with Gregg Goldston and Commedia dell’arte with Maestro Antonio Fava. She studied ballet at ABT and Joffrey, jazz and tap at Steps and Broadway Dance Center, and East Coast Swing at Dance Manhattan. She currently teaches Comic Gold Clown Workshops in NYC and has taught these classes to high school students through various after-school theater programs. Carol has recently been interviewed for Behind the Nose, an upcoming book on clown teachers from around the world.
