TRAINING
Belay Theory Nov 16
Posted October 16, 2019
Rather than an encyclopedic overview of belay wrap entries, Belay Theory is a deep dive into how a belay works, with an exploration of popular (and some unusual) belay entries to illustrate the theory. Aerialists will be encouraged to think conceptually and innovate new wrap ideas as a group. We will move away from "trick collecting," instead emphasizing understanding the mechanics of these interesting wraps.

Level: Intermediate/Advanced

Prerequisites: Clean inversion in the air, comfort with basic drops, ability to listen and take instruction mid-air

Instructor Kylie Carrigan is an artist, aerial instructor, and dancer based in Los Angeles. With a lifetime of training in classical ballet and contemporary dance, Kylie brings the ease of movement and beautiful lines of ballet to her aerial dancing. Kylie was the first student certified through the Aerial Physique teacher training course in Los Angeles and has since gone on to teach aerial silks and hammock at Aerial Physique and currently serves as an instructor and the curriculum director for Wildman Athletica. After earning her master’s degree in fine art in 2017 (and presenting her thesis on aerial improvisation) Kylie deepened her focus on wrap theory, choreography, and sequencing. In her coaching, Kylie aims to impart upon her students a deep understanding of the skills she teaches, rather than step-by-step instructions that are shallowly memorized.
