Animals, Animals, Animals! A 12-Week Kinetic Workshop from Terra Incognita Theater with Artistic Director Polina Klimovitskaya

Part of Terra Incognita Theater's Professional Training Program, "Animals" will lead the actor to the most natural birth of a dramatic character. Through "animal work" the actor's innate nature is awakened and stimulated toward harmonious transformation into another being. This workshop will consist of preparatory exercises based on Ms. Klimovitskaya's "Kinetic Mind Practice" and step-by-step work on the particular animal that each student is going to channel. Eventually each "animal" will find its human equivalent and transform into a dramatic character of the student's choice (from a play or short story). There will be a final presentation of each student's work held in front of an invited audience. This represents the first chance for artists outside the company to experience Terra's specialized training practices and do so in a way that will directly enhance any style or discipline of performance.

Class is limited to 14 selected actors.

Polina Klimovitskaya trained in Moscow, as an actor with disciples of Stanislavski and Vakhtangov, and as a director with the last assistant of Meyerhold. She received both an MFA and a PhD from Yale University and performed at Yale Repertory Theater, as well as in an Academy Award-winning short film. For the last 30 years, she has directed around the world and taught across Europe and the United States, including at New York University, the Stella Adler Studio, and the Shakespeare Conservatory. Her "Kinetic Mind Practice" has gained international recognition, recently garnering her an invitation from the Workcenter of Jerzy Grotowski and Thomas Richards. She is currently on faculty at Yale University and Michael Howard Studio.
