Poi and Fire Fan Classes Apr 3-May 24
Posted March 23, 2017
Poi and Fans with Claire de Luxe

Intro to Fan Dance
This class is designed for beginners and for more technical spinners who want to add more footwork and body movement to their flow. We'll learn foundational fan tech moves and pair them with simple body movements to create dramatic flair. The class will contain both fan technique and dance basics and will help you start to unlock the secrets of combining them!

Poi 1
You're learning poi, yay! We start at the very beginning and gradually build the vocabulary you'll need to be able to progress as far as you want to go with poi!

Poi 3
We continue learning the foundations and groundwork to all poi maneuvers, adding more reels, turns, levels, and stalls to our vocabulary so that we can successfully flow between any two points, and move the poi in every direction around our body.

Poi 6
We'll keep adding varieties of flowers, more isolation and spiral wrap development, keep working with wall plane 1.5s, and we'll begin some under-the-leg moves. We'll continue to work on sequences and transitions as we go!

Poi 10
More antispin, tosses, waist wrap and crosser variations, air wraps, and sequences to blend it all together!

Ninja X Poi
More fun tricks, concepts, and combos for this open-level class. Appropriate for intermediate/advanced spinners who pick up new moves with relative ease.

Looking forward to spinning with you!

"Claire is one of the best teachers I have had the pleasure to study with. Her instructions are clear and her easy going manner makes even the most complicated moves feel very accessible. After two years of poi classes I am still impressed with the absolute presence and focus Claire maintains with each and every student. Poi has been an exploration in movement and balance and has helped me find fluidity and grace. I am continuously fascinated with how the work of trying to coordinate movements of the body also affects my brain and clarity of thought. I feel that my weekly poi sessions have actually helped me with my studies at school as well as provide a bit of meditation like therapy for my mind. I am committed to my poi classes, and maybe even a little addicted." – Tania Turcinovic, nursing student

"I’ve been taking Claire’s poi classes for many years. I started as a beginner and am now an accomplished spinner! Claire is a wonderful teacher. She is able to break down the moves in a concise and understandable way while being patient and supportive. She gets just as excited as her students when we master a move! She encourages us to tap into our creativity while acquiring technique. The class is casual and diverse and everyone is inspired to work hard. As an older former dancer, spinning poi allows me to be creative with movement & gets my motor skills and coordination tuned with the same discipline of dance. It takes a lot of commitment and practice to master. And it’s fun!" – Faye Honor, VP Design, Image Terrain & Certified Pilates Instructor

"I'd love to give Claire all the stars in the universe on a scale of 1-10. I always leave class feeling physically vibrant & excited to work on stuff during the week. Claire is a super chill teacher who makes everything seem achievable. I can't wait for the next session to start because this is an art I really want to learn more about, and improve. I feel Poi is one of those things that once you stop over-analyzing it and just do it, you fall into that good head space of meditation that happens when you do any art, and I love going to those head spaces."
